So there’s all this talk about crystal ponies in season 3, between the sparkly junk you get in grab bags and a song about “saving the crystal ponies”. So I thought, why not design them before I get to see how the show handles it?
I suspect the show ponies with have a lot of sparkles all over them and be plain old ponies, but I thought it would be cool if they literally had crystal in them. Just combining a bunch of old things with the concept of crystal would make for some seriously cool ponies that don’t break the style boundaries, in my opinion. What if we get some of the old fashioned cutie marks that cover the entire flank and the leg? And some old cloven hooves and traditional unicorn tails would be great. I wasn’t sure what to do about the manes, so I decided that they wouldn’t have much hair if they did, it would be curly, and some ponies simply have antler like crystals all over their head instead.
The ponies of of Ponyville try to be friendly but are scared easily by things that are different. Princess Cadence (“needs their help, her magic won’t last forever”) could’ve been making the crystal ponies seem normal to allow them to live in public. That or they live in sweet caves. Yeah.
Anyway, I named them Opal and Moon Drop. It would be neat if gem names were common for them.
Shut up I suck at naming ponies.
